It would be very useful if there was a function to allow selected tag values to be written to and later read from the USB flash.

We install the same software on all of our machines and then configure it (using a screen not usually accesible to the end-user) to suit the specific application (some functions might be disabled/enabled, maximum motor speeds are set, min-max temperatures are set, etc), basically about 30 parameters are configured once at the factory.

If these parameters could be written to the USB flash following configuration then we could automatically read them back in the case of the configuration being lost/invalid (battery failure, software update). Instead of having to either send an engineer or talk the customer through this process.

Like an INI file on an old windows system.

It seems like you would like to use a backup. You can create a backup file under file >create USB loader file.

This will create a .hmi file you can then use to load via the USB port on a supported device.

Good Luck!

Nope, I do not want to make a backup.

I want to be able to write tag values to a USB flash drive and read them back, I want to do this from the ladder-logic to the USB port on the EZ-RACK PLC.

The purpose to to save certain machine specific parameters and recover them should they be lost (for example - machine limits, maximum motor speeds, maximum temperature, error counts, calibration data). These vary from one machine to another though the actual PLC program is the same.

It seems like something that should be easy to implement and would be very helpful.

I should add that I intend to leave a USB flash in each machine permanently. If config changes were ever made they would be saved to the USB flash. If the machine ever started in an unconfigured state it would read the config parameters from the flash. This way all of our PLC's could have the same program with the 'personality, limits, options, capabilities & even passwords' of the machine being stored in the USB flash.
