Why Click and other ADC PLCs need additional components in your control panel that increases the total cost of the PLC significantly as compared to EZNano:
The Problem: Transient Voltage Effects
Inductive loads (motors, solenoids, contactors) create extreme transient voltage spikes when de-energized. If not suppressed, these transients cause:
- Reduced Component Life: Arcing across relay contacts, causing pitting and premature failure.
- Electronic Damage: Spikes exceeding transistor ratings in solid-state outputs, leading to immediate failure.
- System Instability (EMI/RFI): Arcing generates electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can disrupt the PLC and other electronics, causing "mysterious errors."
While PLC outputs typically have some integrated transient suppressors, these are often not capable of handling all transients. To ensure long component life and reliable operation of the control system, additional transient suppression for the inductive load is usually necessary (like adding your own snubbers). A lack of suppression is a common cause of mysterious errors in automation installations.
The EZPLC Nano Advantage: EZAutomation offers the only PLCs with Integrated Snubber Networks
The EZPLC Nano directly addresses the need for additional suppression by incorporating robust snubber circuits directly onto its relay output board. This integration achieves:
| Feature | Benefit of Built-in Snubbers |
|---|---|
| Snubber Network | 'Eliminates the Need for External Wiring:' The user does not need to purchase, size, and wire external protection components. |
| Contact Longevity | "Suppresses Arcing:" By absorbing the energy spike, contact pitting is prevented, increasing the relay's electrical life by a factor of 10 to over 1 million cycles. |
| EMI/RFI Mitigation | "Reduces Electrical Noise:" The suppressed arc dramatically lessens the radio frequency interference (RFI) generated, ensuring higher noise immunity for the control system. |
| Output Rating | "Reliable 10 Amp Switching:" Enables the PLC to directly switch larger inductive loads (like small motors or large contactors) without the cost and complexity of an interposing relay. |
In summary: The built-in snubbers turn the potential weakness of relay outputs (poor performance with inductive loads) into a strength, delivering superior reliability and a simpler wiring solution at a fraction of the cost of a comparable Click PLC requiring external snubbers, wiring, etc. See comparison below. EZAutomation (EZPLC Nano) vs AutomationDirect (Click)
Click from AutomationDirect is manufactured in China whose price is invariably going to increase due to tarrifs. It is constantly going up and you will be well advised to take in to account this uncertainity of price and/or availabilty at all.
| Feature | EZAutomation EZPLC Nano with 24 I/O and built-in snubbers @ $206 |
AutomationDirect Click with 24 I/O - $349, add just 4 Snubbers without Ziplinks it is $729 |
| Model | EZPLC Nano Fixed I/O, 16 DCI, 8 RLO, 1 Form C, NO & NC contacts 10 Amps with snubbers on each contact. Expandable to 2048 I/O. |
16 DCI, 8 RLO, external zip module & cable needed to get to 1 Form C , 8 Amp reading, still without snubbers. ZL-RRL16F-24-1 Relay module, ZL-CO-CBL 20-1 cable. |
